My First Book

Hey guys, I was thinking about releasing an E-Book in the near future. This idea was thought upon due to the crazy experiences in my life – I just figured I’d do something meaningful. The book is going to include a majority of the poems I’ve already created and several exclusive ones that I haven’t posted. It’s also going to feature a more in-dept description about myself, so people can learn a little more about me, and a few explanations of my pieces. What do you guys think? What should I add? I’m fully open to suggestions and may even include some ideas ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. what an awesome idea! i know you will be successful!! how about adding some pics?? ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Way to go! It’s a great idea – a great way to develop a strong reader base and get your name out there. I agree with ‘buckwheatsrisk’ about images – adding a pic to words can give them added emotional impact. Go for it!

  3. I love ebooks! The big thing is getting it on itunes. I’m probably gonna have to write a post about this one day, but I will buy literally anything under $5. I’d price it at $4.99 if I were you.

  4. it’s a nice step for sure. my only suggestion is to make sure your pieces are ready. the reason i say that is i did a chapbook about 7 to 8 years ago and i had some in it that i had rather not of wanted in it. just a voice of experience.

  5. Sounds like fun! A warning – it is so hard to market! Takes a lot of energy! You may have a large network but you have to do it as a labor of love, as it really is hard to get attention. I have a few books out – I think they are fun (and they are), but it’s very hard to do all the marketing work. K.

  6. If you wanna sell it online, i would say you include some art work/graffiti on the front page or the page which will be displayed. Also, try to give every poem some personalized art touch……..i mean give them some beautiful outlines like flower petals along the borders n stuff….and don’t forget to give your poems strong titles…..its not like i am any good at it but i think it will work. Happy Blogging!

  7. “If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can ever warm me, I know that is poetry.”
    – Emily Dickenson

  8. Go for it bro! Eventually I’d like to do the same and I agree with everyone about adding some pics, particularly if you’re including a lot of poetry/free verse entries.

  9. Go for it bro! I too would like to do something like that in the near future and i agree with everyone about adding some pics particularly if you’re including a lot of poetry/free verse.

  10. Awesome! so happy for you! totally hope it goes well. Thanks for always stopping by to read Eddie. You know how badly we all need the affirmation of our fellow writers. So promise I will try to get over here more to read more of your work.

  11. Go for it! Why not touch as many people on Earth with your poetic gift.

You may find a mixture of our ideas in sync with those that you’ve already conceived. E.g., after “X” number (but no set quantity) of pages of poetry, reveal a lil more about yourself. With that concept, by the time a reader reaches the last set of poems, he or she has gotten to know you through your art and the puzzle pieces of your personal story. Be creative in how you present your story. Do you prefer a straight or linear narrative, a lyrical memoir, a photo essay, an offbeat memoir from the p.o.v. of “the unreliable narrator.”

Writers, poets included, can come off as arrogant instead of confident, so please consider warmth, humor, etc., in your biog’l portions.

Poems speak for themselves, but photos, graphics, illustrations, borders and backgrounds(but not all of those design elements)–even if only on the cover–provide the reader with extra visual stimulation. My frustration lies in not being a visual artist and having to rely on free clip art and pix in the public domain. I still have no functional computer at home, and despite the portability of flash drives, it’s hellish working with photos that I shot at public terminals w/severe time limits. I miss designing my e-book covers with GIMP.

Lastly, remember that you can outsource cover art if you don’t have the time or energy to create it. But you need the clams.

  12. go for it.. its a great start.. pursue it and i know you’ll achieve some thing ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. It’s tough to do, but if you find a great way to market it, that might work. I have several things on Amazon Kindle right now and E-Book Bay. Would love to know how to get onto Nook or Apple. Hardest thing for me is the cover. You got to have a good cover and my minimal talent at that I think hurts my sells. Anything you can do to make it pop will help? I also put up pages on all of my blogs detailing what I have for sell. Even put up a widget for what I consider my best seller. You can always do stuff like that to drive more attention to your work. I haven’t thought about selling my poems though.

  14. An e-book is an interesting idea. I’ll admit, I am a bit jealous of your motivation ๐Ÿ™‚
Have you ever considered creating an account on DeviantArt? That’s a good way to get poetry out in “the big, wide world” as well as developing a fan base.

  15. Go for it, man! Create that legacy…. (bruthman daps)

  16. I encourage you to share your writing and poetry with the world. After all, why not?

  17. Go with your heart on this one.

  18. […] I wanna’ start off by saying thank you to everyone who included an idea in the previous post My First Ebook. Those were some amazing ideas (and I’m probably going to include some of them). As far as […]

  19. Yes, go for it, I have a few ebooks on Amazon and it’s fun checking to see if there have been sales and so on. If you only put them on Amazon and enrol in Amazon Select you can do free days and they can be borrowed by Amazon Prime customers which in turn generates more interest. It’s not a way to make a fortune but it’s a way to share and it’s great fun. – Diane P.S I would say that it is very important to be disciplined with your original manuscript because otherwise formatting can drive you to drink. – not that there’s anything wrong with drink ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  20. What an interesting idea. In this world of abundant freedom, it is amazing that you can self-publish sans the restrictions of an editors demands! Best of Luck to you. And thanks for stopping by my page for a spell and liking one of my poems, truly humbled!
